Afgelopen nacht heeft The Last of Us Part II heel wat prijzen weggekaapt op de Game Awards. Naughty Dogs survivalgame werd niet alleen bekroond tot game van het jaar, maar won ook verschillende andere prijzen waaronder die voor beste regie, beste verhaal, beste audio én beste action/adventure game. Ook de actrice die Abby vertolkte ontving de prijs voor de beste acteerprestatie van 2020.

De winnaars worden gekozen door een jury. Opvallend: het publiek stemde dan weer Ghost of Tsushima tot Game van het Jaar. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 werd uitgeroepen tot beste sportgame, Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate tot beste vechtspel en Final Fantasy VII Remake tot beste RPG. Elden Ring, de nieuwe game van ontwikkelaar FromSoftware, is dan weer de game waar iedereen het hardst naar uitkijkt.

Tussen het uitreiken van de awards kregen we ook heel wat aankondigingen te zien. Zo leerden we dat de Nintendo 64-klassieker Perfect Dark een reboot krijgt, zombieklassieker Left 4 Dead terug tot leven komt als Back 4 Blood en zagen we een vette teaser van Dragon Age 4.
